Songman:
Barney Alan Mahralung (Alan Maralung). Didjeridu by: Oscar
Ngunjinji. Recorded 1961-1962 at Beswick Creek Welfare
Branch Settlement, near Katherine, N.T. Didjeridu is an
unusually fine, resonant, thin-walled instrument with
a 3'10" bore flaring regularly from 2" at the wax-joined
carved wooden mouthpiece to 5" at the bell. The didjeridu
belongs to Barney and is never used to accompany songs
of any other cycle. The owner claims that the songs, song
texts, drone patterns, dances and even the location of
the ant-hollowed pandanus trunk from which the didjeridu
was made were all revealed to him in a dream by a deceased
musical mentor. |
